How to get the BEST Deal- Car Rentals
It’s no lie that car rental prices have really gone up! There are some destinations that absolutely require a car to get around and see all the things …so we have a little secret on how we reserve and pay for our rentals.
Costco travel
If you have a Costco membership, we recommend trying the Costco travel site to reserve car rentals. The prices we have seen are consistently 20%-30% cheaper. Also, you can reserve and pay later. Your membership always gets you an additional driver at no charge. We like to reserve as early as possible (several months if possible) giving us the best vehicle options and pricing. However, it’s always good to check back often to see if the prices have dropped. We have saved several hundred dollars doing this. Just cancel and rebook at the better price- No charge!
Capital 1 Venture X $300 travel credit
Another great way to save on car rentals is using your Capital 1 Venture X travel portal. Once there, click on car rentals and search your location and dates. We find these prices are usually a bit higher but are a great way to use your $300 annual travel credit. Just book and pay with your card and you should receive your credit within a couple of weeks. We recently used this method for a car rental in Vegas and it ended up being completely free as it came in just under $300.
Other options
We don’t really have a good way to pay for car rentals using points. 😔However, you could always try the travel portals with your credit cards or erase your car rental purchase with miles using this nice option from Capital One. However, you really aren’t getting the best value out of your points by doing this. It might make sense to just pay out of pocket and save those points!
Bottom Line
Paying for a car rental at an amazing destination is at times a necessary evil…but with these tips and tricks we hope you can save some money and get the BEST possible deal! Happy Travels!
