Hawai’i on Points & Miles
Hawaii is a place so many have been and talked about. In the past, I’ve looked into travel to Hawaii and was always put off by the price! So expensive! I remember telling Babes that we could go to Europe for cheaper than it would cost to go to Hawaii….(so we did🤓😉…go to Europe that is)
Fast forward to the summer of 2021. I started reading all I could on travel hacking…which is the art of booking and enjoying travel using points and miles-no money out of pocket. At the time, the most sought after travel credit card (Chase Sapphire Preferred) was offering a whopping 100,000 points after spending $4,000 in 3 months. I started putting all our everyday spending on this card- like gas, groceries even utilities, and within a few weeks we hit our initial spend and our Chase Ultimate rewards were in our account! Yay 😀
Next, I referred Babes to get the card and he applied and was approved, scoring me 20,000 extra referral bonus rewards. What?
So we worked on Babes’ initial spend and soon enough we had 100,000 Chase ultimate rewards in his account! So in about 4 months we had 220,000 Chase ultimate rewards. Now we were ready to book some travel!
I had been researching the islands of Hawai’i and came to the conclusion that we would like to visit Maui and Kauai. Both had unique sights and foods, as well as beaches that we wanted to try. More importantly, Hyatt has awesome properties on each island. They also are a transfer partner of Chase ultimate rewards so …we were able to transfer 200,000 ultimate rewards into our Hyatt account and reserved 4 nights at the Hyatt Regency in Maui @ 25,000 per night and then 4 nights at the Grand Hyatt in Kauai for 25,000 points per night. I couldn’t believe it! We were scheduled to stay 8 nights in top notch, beach front properties in Hawai’i for absolutely free!
Of course, we still had flights to book (which were also booked with points- more on that later 😉) and lots of tours….but the bulk of our expense was paid for thanks to bonuses from Chase Sapphire Preferred cards.
